2014-15 Health and Dental Insurance
Health insurance continues to be a high cost item for Hartwick College and employees. During the current year, we had 12 claims totaling more than $1million. These extremely high claims, combined with medical trends and fees for the Affordable Care Act have resulted in a rate increase of 13.9%.
Our broker, Austin & Co., Inc., worked on our behalf to obtain market quotes from other carriers, and negotiated rates and options for our renewal with CDPHP. The market quotes returned over 30% rate increases from MVP and Excellus.
Hartwick College will retain CDPHP as our health insurance provider and has accepted CDPHP's offer of the Transitional Exclusive Provider Organization (EPO) and Transitional Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) plan changes.
The Transitional EPO plan institutes a plan deductible and co-insurance on several hospital services including maternity, outpatient surgery and emergency care; and changes to copayments for various physician services. The prescription drug coverage will not experience any copayment changes. As a reminder, copayments for radiology and laboratory services are waived if the provider is a preferred center or designated laboratory. Please review the attached EPO Summary for full details of the plan changes.
The Transitional PPO plan institutes a plan deductible and co-insurance on in-network hospital services, and an increased deductible and co-insurance on all out-of-network covered services. The prescription drug coverage will not experience any changes to copayments. As a reminder, copayments for radiology and laboratory services are waived if the provider is a preferred center or designated laboratory. Please review the attached PPO Summary for full details of the plan changes.
Beginning in 2014, consumers' annual out-of-pocket costs in network for health care, including deductibles, co-insurance and co-payments, are limited under the Affordable Care Act to no more than $6,350 per individual and $12,700 per family.
The monthly employee contributions effective July 1, 2014 through June 30, 2015 will be:
As a reminder, through the CDPHP LifePoints Program, members can earn gift cards valued up to $365 per calendar year by participating in a variety of healthy activities including joining our new Campbell Fitness Center, and attending onsite CDPHP classes such as Preventing & Managing Diabetes (May 29th, Noon-1:00 p.m., Eaton Lounge- Bresee Hall) and Plan for Life sessions (June 18th, Noon-1:00 p.m., Chesebro Room- Dewar Hall; September, date to be determined).
