2015-16 Health and Dental Insurance
July 1, 2015 marks the annual renewal for health and dental insurance. A period of "Open Enrollment" will be effective May 26 - June 12, 2015. There will be four information sessions held on Tuesday, May 26 at 10:00 a.m.; 11:00 a.m.; 1:00 p.m.; and 3:00 p.m., in the Celebrations Room, Shineman Chapel House. Representatives from Austin & Co. and CDPHP will be present.
Health insurance continues to be costly for Hartwick College and our employees. High levels of service use, medical trends, a lack of provider and insurer competition for this region, and fees for the Affordable Care Act have once again resulted in total premium increases for both the EPO and PPO options.
As you are aware, the College is no longer able to absorb the additional premium increases to employee health insurance. Even so, for the 2015-2016 plan year the College will continue to contribute the same dollar amounts toward the costs of employee premiums as was contributed during 2014-15 (see attached rate sheet).
After a long and extensive due diligence process, Hartwick College will retain CDPHP as our health insurance provider. The current EPO and PPO plan designs will not experience any change, and there will not be any disruption to the network or prescription drug formulary.
In addition, the College has negotiated with CDPHP to offer a new plan option that reduces monthly premiums in exchange for higher deductibles. It is called an Exclusive Provider Organization High Deductible plan (EPOHD) with an integrated Health Savings Account (HSA).
The EPOHD plan will provide employees with a high deductible plan option with the added advantage of a tax-favored health savings account. Employees who are interested in this option will need to establish an HSA account with a HSA Sponsor, bank or credit union. We have attached some local banking options for you.
The monthly employee contributions effective July 1, 2015 through June 30, 2016 will be:

Life Points and Other Cost Saving Programs
As a reminder, through the CDPHP LifePoints Program, members can earn gift cards valued up to $365 per calendar year by participating in a variety of healthy activities including joining our Campbell Fitness Center and attending onsite CDPHP classes. For further details, please contact the Office of Human Resources at extension 4244.
There are cost saving programs available through CDPHP, such as the RX for Less Program, ordering maintenance drugs through mail order, requesting generic drugs when available, and utilizing urgent care facilities rather than emergency rooms when appropriate.
Hartwick College will continue to work with ComTon, Inc. to offer dental coverage. I am pleased to announce the current plan design and rates will remain unchanged. The monthly employee premiums effective July 1, 2015 through June 30, 2016 will be:

ComTon, Inc. will continue to administer the Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) for the College. Employees who are interested in participating in the FlexSpending Plan for 2015-16 must complete a 2015-16 enrollment form no later than June 12. 2015-16 flexible spending enrollment packets will be available beginning Tuesday, May 26, 2015 in the Office of Human Resources or may be found on the Human Resources website under Forms for Employees.
