Flu Prevention

Hartwick College has for many years successfully prepared for and dealt with season flu outbreaks affecting our campus.  We continue to work with county, state, and national agencies to be prepared in the event of a serious influenza outbreak affecting Hartwick College and our community.  If and when it becomes necessary, we will respond to facilitate the continued effective operation of Hartwick College while maintaining our committment to the health and safety of our students and employees.

The most important steps we can all take to prevent the spread of the flu are personal. Fortunately, everyday actions that can help prevent the spread of germs that cause respiratory illnesses like influenza are simple and include the following: wash your hands often with soap and water; obtain the seasonal flu vaccine; cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze; if you do not have a tissue available you should cough or sneeze into the crook of your elbow rather than your hands; avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth; sanitize common hard surfaces.
