Hartwick College Staff Council Goals – 2009 –2010
The Hartwick College Staff Council will continue to make strides to improve on those areas addressed in goals 4, 6 and 7 from the list of goals established for the 2008-2009 term; additionally we have set four new goals for the 2009 – 2010 Academic Year:
1. Determine what the role of Staff Council is within the Hartwick community based on the Middle States Report, and how the Council fits into the shared governance structure at Hartwick College;
2. To develop and implement strategies to improve the marketing of Staff Council to the Hartwick community;
3. Develop a calendar to be used as a guide for planning and review within Staff Council;
4. Implement an Ad-Hoc Committee for the 2009 – 2010 year that will develop a formal set of guidelines which outline the roles and responsibilities one accepts when becoming a member of Staff Council. A final report will be submitted by the committee to Staff Council for the January 2010 meeting;
5. Continuing - Strengthen the presence of Staff Council among staff through means including but not limited to:
a. Providing more opportunities for staff to have input in the Staff Council agenda;
b. Making Staff Council members more visible via the Staff-Council website and other media;
c. Actively promoting more awareness of Staff Council;
d. Becoming pro-active in responding to issues;
6. Continuing - Become more effective in meeting Staff Council’s advisory role by strengthening the presence of Staff Council in internal communication processes through means including but not limited to:
a. “closing loops” (i.e. getting answers to the questions that we ask, following up on promises that are made, getting feedback on input that we have provided);
b. Promoting more two-way communication between Staff Council and other campus organizations and governing bodies;
c. Inviting and encouraging more information and feedback from the President and Cabinet;
7. Continuing - Continue pursuing prior goals not addressed in the above goals;
a. Provide information to new employees about Staff Council via new employee orientations;
b. Encourage staff involvement in campus events;
c. Sponsor staff recognition awards.
