Information Systems Services Projects 2013-2014:
Migration from UniData to MS SQL
Hartwick College has signed a contract with Ellucian, the company formerly known as Datatel, to migrate from UniData, our current database platform, to the Microsoft SQL Server database platform. Please note: we are not replacing the Datatel system, we are just switching the underlying database that stores our information--same house; new foundation.
Datatel clients are electing to migrate to the MS SQL Server database because of a lower cost of ownership, realizing savings in hardware, software and staffing. There are additional technical benefits as well, such as enhanced reporting options. The project will begin in the summer of 2013 and is projected to take about 12 months. Since we lease the Datatel server, the completion of the project will be timed to coincide with the lease's expiration date in 2014. The actual timeline will be developed in partnership with our Ellucian assigned project manager.
