Graduating Senior Technology Checklist

Congratulations, Graduates!

Below you will find a list that covers technology "housekeeping" items to think about before you leave Hartwick. But first:

You will soon be alumni. There is a Web site dedicated to supporting the Hartwick alumni community which you can use to keep in touch with classmates, network with other graduates for job opportunities, etc.

Checklist of Services and What Happens after Graduation:

  • Your E-mail Account
Hartwick e-mail accounts of 2012 graduates will remain enabled through December 31. If you want to keep your account past December 31, you must notify us by emailing AccountManager@hartwick.edu. There is no charge to keep your account. If you do not notify us, this account will be deleted as of January 4, 2013. Note that, in order to keep your e-mail account, you must also tend it regularly. Mailboxes that fill up and automatically close will be deleted after two months (even if it is before December 31).
  • WebAdvisor Access
WebAdvisor access will end June 5th, 2012. After that time, you may contact the Office of Advising and Registration for grade and transcript information.
  • Network Storage (M: Drive) and Web pages
Like your e-mail account (see above), unless we hear from you, network storage (your M: drive) and Web pages will be deleted on or shortly after January 4, 2012.
  • Hartwick College software on your Hartwick-issued laptop
The license for the Windows operating system on your Hartwick-issued notebook is owned by you, but the licenses for the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Power Point), Sygate/Symantec, and SPSS are issued to and owned by Hartwick. Current students are allowed to use Hartwick licenses, but when you graduate, you are responsible for removing this software from your computer. This is specifically stated in the contract that you signed when you received your notebook. If you have any questions about what should be removed and why, or need advice about installing personally-owned anti-virus software, please contact the Technology Resource Center at 607-431-4357.
  • Log in on your Hartwick-issued notebook
After you graduate, you may wish to create a non-Hartwick log-in for your computer. Occasionally, users have trouble logging in with a Hartwick account when they have been away from the Hartwick domain for a long time.  If you wish to do so, follow these instructions, or contact the Technology Resource Center at 607-431-4357 for assistance. Do not remove your computer from the Hartwick domain unless you have created a local administator account.
    Blackboard Access
  • Blackboard courses you were enrolled in will become unavailable after July 1, 2012.
  • WICKit Card
Any funds left on your WICKit card will be credited to your student account, and any credits on your student account will be sent to you in June or July. For seniors, WICKit card access to doors will be removed after graduation.
  • Listservs and Mailing Lists
If you do not plan to keep your Hartwick e-mail account, please be sure to unsubscribe from any non-Hartwick mailing lists or listservs that you belong to, so that these don't continue to come to our server.
  • Warranty and Repairs on your notebook
We hope that you will get many more years of service from your Hartwick-issued notebook. Your manufacturer's warranty will expire in early-mid June 2012. You can still call the Technology Resource Center (607-431-4357 or e-mail to technology@hartwick.edu) if you have any problems or need repairs. As long as parts for your machine continue to be available, we will try to assist you. There will be a charge, of course, and you will be responsible for any shipping; but the charge will generally be less than having the work done by commercial vendors.
  • Your Voice Mail Account
If you maintain a Hartwick College voice mail account, it will be turned off on June 1, 2012.
