Laptop Checklist
In order to be prepared to use a laptop at Hartwick College, you need to do the following:
During the summer:
1. Decide what computer to buy (if any). See Recommended Laptop Program. For an indication of your courses' computer requirements, go to WebAdvisor and use "Search for Sections."
2. To buy a Hartwick-recommended laptop, use the link on the left side of this page or go to our Laptop Store.
3. Tell us via the Laptop Choice Form what computer you will bring to class in the fall, so that we can reserve a seat for you at the appropriate session of "Hartwick—Getting Online" during Welcome Weekend.
4. Read and respond to the Hartwick Network Agreements by August 1.
5. For computers other than the Hartwick-recommended laptops, purchase the required software bundle (Windows or Mac) needed for your laptop. Print the e-mail receipt and bring it to school with you. The bundle will be installed during Welcome Weekend. Instructions for purchasing the software can be found here.
When you arrive at Hartwick:
6. Hartwick College is committed to keeping our network free of viruses and malware, and our required software bundles contain Symantec Endpoint Protection to help us do that. When you first arrive on campus, you will be granted temporary access to the network until the Welcome Weekend "Hartwick—Getting Online" sessions have concluded.
During Welcome Weekend, you will be assigned to a session of "Hartwick—Getting Online" depending on which laptop you bring (or no laptop). During the session, we will complete any tasks needed to continue your network connection. For Hartwick-recommended laptops, this will include certificate installation, since your security software is already installed. For all others it will also include installation of the required software bundle mentioned in step 5 above. Be sure to attend your scheduled session. Bring your laptop (if you have one), AC power adapter and power cord, and if you bring a laptop other than a Hartwick-recommended laptop, bring the e-mail receipt from the purchase of the Mac or Windows required software bundle.
After Welcome Weekend, your computer will not be allowed access to the Hartwick network (and the Internet via the Hartwick network) unless you have the software bundle and certificate installed on your computer.
