Intro to Your Portal

Blackboard has now been expanded to include enhanced functions of the community system. These include

  • Hartwick Network Password Log-on (no need to keep a separate Bb password)
  • Enhanced News Feeds (everything from the Portland Press Herald to the Los Angeles Times, with stops in between)
  • Enhanced Community Page with tools to keep your organizations organized
  • Courses are now automatically entered for you, and can be accessed from the "courses" tab
With the WICKit campus card, you now have portal capabilities. A "portal" is a Web page that you can customize to reflect your informational needs and will give you that customized information each time you log-on.

The address for this portal is https://community.hartwick.edu/, where you'll be asked to log-in, using your network password. When the system recognizes you, it will send you the information you want in modules that you have chosen. While some of the initial modules are required, you can "deselect" or "minimize" some of the other default modules by clicking on the module buttons.

To choose additional modules, you can go to the "modify content" link in the upper right corner of your portal page. Here you can select from a range of optional modules that run the range from a dictionary module to news feeds from the New York Times, French & German newspapers, and Soccerway news. After making your selection, go to the bottom of the page and click on the "submit" button. Clicking here will send your choices to the server.

Next, click on the "modify layout" link to arrange your modules as you see fit. Again, go to the bottom of the page and click "submit." When you return to the "Welcome" page you will see your customized portal.

More detailed information about modifying your portal can be found at the link below. Check the "modify content" button often, as we will continue to add a variety of modules to the list.
