What is theWICKitCard?
The WICKit Card is Hartwick College’s ID card and is your personal identification while on/off campus. However, its features extend far beyond a simple ID - it's your access card to residence halls and campus debit card to be used for vending, washers, and dryers - all in one. It can also be used off campus at participating merchants who accept the WICKit card for purchases.

Who is eligible for WICKit Card?
All students (part time and full time) are eligible for the WICKit Card. All faculty and staff who are paid directly by the College are eligible for the WICKit Card. ARAMARK employees as well as campus guests can also get a WICKit card.

Where do I go to get my new or replacement WICKit card?
You can get your new WICKit card, or if your WICKit card no longer works, you can get a replacement WICKit card (replacement fee of $10 may apply), from ARAMARK Food Services, in the Commons of Dewar Student Union. WICKit cards are available Mon.-Sun., 2pm until 5pm.

I lost my WICKit card. What do I do?
Remember that your WICKit card is your personal identification card and much more. Funds that you have on the WICKit card are kept on a centralized server, so losing the card does not mean that you have lost your funds. However, if someone finds it, they could use the funds you have, so it is important to deactivate your lost card as soon as possible. You can deactivate your WICKit card by logging into the Community system: https://community.hartwick.edu , go to the MY ACCOUNTS tab, and select Report Lost or Stolen Card.

Also, you can report lost or stolen cards to Campus Security by calling 607-431-4111.

Once your WICKit card is deactivated, you will want to get it replaced – see Where do I go to get my new or replacement WICKit card? above.

I just got my WICKit card, when can I start using it?
All new cards take approximately 15 minutes to be processed by our computer system; after that, your card will be fully activated.

I just got my WICKit card, how do I activate the debit part of my card?
To activate your debit account, or WICKit $, all you have to do is deposit money, and within 5 minutes your account will be ready to go. You can add money to your WICKIT card two ways: The Business Office will take cash or check, or you can go online and make a deposit using a credit card. Your parents can also go online to deposit funds on your WICKit card. To go online, click: https://community.hartwick.edu

Where can I punch a hole in my new WICKit card?
We recommend that you NOT punch any holes in your WICKit card. Attaching your WICKit card to a set of keys prematurely wears out the card. We recommend a plastic card sleeve with a lanyard to hold your card. If you absolutely must punch a hole in the card, then it should not be punched through or near the magnetic black stripe on the back of the card. NOTE: If your card should fail for any reason, and you have punched a hole in your card, you will automatically be charged for a replacement card.

Do I need to replace my WICKit card every year?
No, WICKit cards are durable and have a protective laminate on them, so they should last a long time. Here are some simple tips to extend the life of your WICKit card:

  • Keep your card away from items that can generate a magnetic field (computers, refrigerators, microwaves, stereo speakers).
  • Keep the card away from excessive heat .
  • Do not put the card through the washing machine or dryer.
  • Do not use the card as a windshield scraper or a tool.
  • Keep your card safe in a wallet or purse – keeping it in a front pants pocket can bend and twist the card, which will shorten its life.

How can I tell what my current balance is?
There are 3 ways to check your balance:

  • Every time you use your card to purchase something, your balance as of that transaction is displayed on the cash register pole display or on the LCD display on vending readers and on the washer/dryer controller readers.
  • You can ask any manned location that accepts the WICKit Card to tell you your balance.
  • Check your balance online by using the Community system: https://community.hartwick.edu

How much money should I add to my WICKit card in order to cover me for the year?
There is no limit to how much you can add, but, generally speaking (and depending how much time you spend on campus), $750 to $1,000 or more should cover laundry, vending, supplies, and other expenses. Also keep in mind that the WICKit card can be used at selected off-campus merchants in the Oneonta area (click here to see the list of merchants).

If my residence meal plan comes with money (meal plan dollars), how does that differ from WICKit dollars?
You can add to your meal plan dollars only by charging your student account at the Business Office. While no tax is charged on transactions, meal plan dollars can be used only for food on campus and do not carry over to the following academic year. Meal plan dollars are non-refundable.

WICKit dollars can be added to at the Business Office using check or cash, but the easiest way to add value is to go online and use a credit card. WICKit $ are refundable when the student graduates or is no longer a student at Hartwick. Parents can also go online and add to a student’s WICKit dollars – all they need to know is the student ID number. Transactions using WICKit dollars are taxable, but the dollars can be used just about everywhere on campus (vending, washer/dryers, Bookstore, Commons) and at selected off-campus merchants. To go online to add value to your WICKit $ account, click on this link: https://community.hartwick.edu

Can I have multiple plans on my WICKit card?
Yes, multiple plans are allowed. For example, the card gives you access to your campus meal plan, meal plan dollars, and WICKit $. Keep in mind that these plans are not actually on the card but kept on a centralized server. When you swipe your card, the transaction contacts the server, and, depending on what is in your database record, the server will either approve or deny the transaction.

How do I use my WICKit $ off campus?
Participating merchants will have a WICKit Accepted Here sign in their business window. You can also click here to see a list of participating merchants.

Each participating merchant is given a card reader, so when you make your purchase, you will need your WICKit card for the merchant to swipe. The card reader then checks the campus system to be sure you have enough funds in your WICKit $ account to pay for your purchase. Note: Participating merchants are prohibited from charging any additional fees or surcharges for accepting the WICKit card. Report any problems to the phone number listed below or send email to WICKit@hartwick.edu.
