Learning Support Services at The Loft offers workshops in three different formats to meet students' various learning and scheduling needs.

All workshops are held in the Loft -5th Floor, Stevens-German Library.
1. I Have To Write That Down?
Effective note-taking strategies
Participants will learn strategies for taking better notes in class and how to better organize lecture and reading notes.
Tuesdays: 2/21, 2/28, 3/6, 3/13

Facilitator: Jen Marciniak, Learning Specialist and Disability Support Services at The Loft
2. Train Your Brain
Habits to assist with reading assignments and remembering course content
Participants need to bring their textbooks to this workshop. They will be taught the ins and outs of textbook reading. The group will explore various study techniques using graphic organizers and mnemonics.
Fridays: 2/24, 3/2

3. "Toolbox for Choosing a Major"
A guide book for helping students find a field of study that suits them.
Using "Toolbox for Choosing a Major," participants will complete a personal style inventory, make a short list of possible majors, and receive instruction in using helpful online resources.

4. Interview You
Discover personal values and interests and skills to better prepare for the working world.
Participants will learn how to interview themselves to assess what they value and what skills they can offer employers. They will learn to utilize people in their lives to be mentors and guides in the search for meaningful work.

5. Stop Procrastination
Learn to accomplish goals without feeling overwhelmed.
Participants will identify negative feelings that distract them from completing projects. They will also learn strategies to address and stop procrastination.
Thursdays: 3/8, 4/5

Facilitator: Jason Stanton, Tutor Coordinator at The Loft
6. Problem-Solving Role-Play
Act out challenges and learn to make wise choices.
Participants will identify positive actions toward resolving challenges and problems. They will create dialog about academic challenges and role-play solutions through the guiding-wise-choices process.

"The Real Thing" DVD Workshops
(available through Learning Support Services at the Loft, 5th floor Stevents-German Library, Yager Hall)
DVD lectures are approximately 15 minutes long, and an accompanying handout is available with each lecture. These workshops are geared toward the practice of listening and note taking skills.
