Probationary Student Advising Services

Students are placed on Academic Probation when their overall grade point average is below the requirement for graduation.  Students on Probation must sign a probationary agreement with the Office of Advising and Registration, and are expected to follow the exact terms of the agreement. Failure to comply with the probation agreement may result in dismissal.

There are specific programs designed for probationary students at different levels.

  • Close Scrutiny - A weekly one on one meeting with a professional staff member.
  • College Success Program (CSP) - A small-group weekly meeting to discuss issues of concern and develop strategies for academic success.
  • OnCourse - During this course, students will learn many proven strategies for creating greater academic, professional, and personal success. We will use guided journal writings to explore these strategies, and as a bonus, we will take a beautiful hiking trip into the Catskill Mountains. The hike will illustrate to students the purpose of staying on course and it will give them the opportunity to discover how to create a rich, personally fulfilling life.
  • Regular meetings with professional staff - A regularly occurring meeting to make sure students are staying on track in their academic courses.

All students on probation will work in one or more of the above programs.  Please also see our Resources for Students page to download helpful time-management documents and use the GPA Calculator to calculate the GPA you need next semester to rise above probation status.

If you have questions about probation, please contact the Office of Advising and Registration at 607-431-4435.
