Academic Advising Services

Advising services, located on the 4th floor of Dewar Union, serves as a clearinghouse of academic information to students and academic advisors, and as a source of referral to other support offices on campus. The main focus of advising services is to provide Undeclared students, first year students, students transitioning between majors, and transfer students with academic counseling designed to assist with the transition to College or to a new program of study.

Advisor Assignments
Each student is assigned to a faculty or professional advisor. New students who have declared a major are assigned to an advisor within their major area of study. Undeclared students are assigned to their First-Year Seminar instructor, another first semester professor or a professional advisor in the Office of Advising and Registration, creating a connection between advisor and advisee during the first semester.

Students are required to meet with their advisors prior to each course registration period, but are encouraged to visit their advisors regularly as the year progresses. Advisors help students in various ways, from helping the student plan a challenging, satisfying, and coherent academic program to discussing career options and resources available for dealing with specific problems a student may be facing.
