Tips

  • Make sure you contact your advisor when you have added courses to your plan.
  • Remember to verify that you have the required pre-requisites for courses you add to your plan.
  • Be sure to check if a course you add to your plan is permission only. You will have to pre-register for most permission only courses on paper.
  • Make sure that courses you add to your plan have available sections in the term in which you plan to pre-register.
  • You can only pre-register during your scheduled pre-regsitration time. Verify your pre-registration time before you pre-register. This time is available on the pre-registration materials you will receive from the Office of Advising and Registration. If you try to pre-register before this time, you will receive a registration error.
  • If you have a hold on your account, you won't be able to pre-register until it is cleared. Make sure your holds are cleared before you click submit on the registration screen!
  • Once you  have pre-regsitered for sections, you can only drop them by filling out a drop slip and bringing it to the Office of Advisiong and Registration for processing.

Registration Errors

If there is a problem with the sections you are trying to pre-register for, WebAdvisor will provide an error message in red at the top of the registration screem. At this point, you may wish to select Register for the sections you wish to keep, or you can rearrange all sections to meet your priorities. To remove a section, select "Remove from List" for that class and click submit. You will need to go back to the class sections and find a section that does not cause a conflict.

Possible error messages:

  • No classes meeting the search criteria have been found
    • You have selected a course that is not offered that term. Remove that course and select another. Verify section offerings in "Search for Sections".
  • Section A conflicts with Section B
    • You have a time conflict.
  • Section C - Registration in C puts student in overload. Petition is required.
    • A petition to the Committee on Academic Standards is required for this overload.
  • Section D - Student requires instructors consent to register in D.
    • The section is permission only. Process a course permission form with the instructor's signature.
  • Section E - Course E prerequisites have not been started.
    • You have not met the pre-requisites for this section.
  • You are not eligible for registration. Hold(s) to be resolved: Office of XYZ
    • You have a hold on your account. Contact the office listed to resolve.

It will save you some time if you plan your sections of classes and sections using the 'Search for Sections' area of WebAdvisor for Students Main Menu. This area lets you narrow down your search to courses and sections being offered during a particular term, and displays permission required, pre-requisite required and the day and time a section is offered.
