Follow-up On Your Actions

When you send your resume indicate in your cover letter that you will follow up. Call in a week or so to see if your resume has been received and when interviews will be scheduled. Be prepared to answer questions about your interests and background. After an interview, follow up with a note thanking the employer, and restating your interest. See our section on cover letters, for more on this topic. If more than two weeks have passed since your interview, it is appropriate to follow up with a phone call.

Be persistent! Mentally prepare yourself for a long job hunt. The typical job search lasts from 8 to 23 weeks.

If you need any further assistance with your job search, please make an appointment with a career counselor in the Office of Career Services.
