Application Process & Forms
The Summer and Fall application period has officially opened. The deadline for applications to an Off-Campus J Term program will be in the fall, on September 13. For courses that remain open, you are welcome to apply online now. Your application will be reiewed by the Program Leaders of that course over the summer. They will make final decisions on the status of applications into their program between September 13 and September 23, 2013. Once your status is determined by the Program Leader, The Office of Global Education will send you an email and an official letter (one copy to the parents one copy to the student) notifying you of your status. Once you receive this official notice you will have two weeks to pay the $500 deposit.
Incoming first-year students are welcome to apply to courses. Some courses have pre-requisites. Please contact the Program Leader before applying to make sure you qualify. The following courses are recommended for first-year students:

- Natural Hisotry of Costa Rica
- Vietnam: Education, Language and Culture
- Language Immersion in the Heart of France
- Imagined Communities in France
- Field Geology of the Desert Southwest
- German Term in Vienna, Austria
- The Culture and Crafts of Hungary
- Greece & Turkey - Political Animals: Life and Thought in the Ancient Greek World
- Psychology, Film and New York City
- Pyschology of Creativity in Hawaii
- Sacred Space in America
- Irish Culture and Society II
- Theatre in England

The process consists of two steps - filling out the online form and then filling out two forms that need to be filled out on your computer, printed and signed.
The Online Form - you will fill out the following information:- Student information
- Parent/Guardian contact information
- Emergency contact information with electronic signature (no need to print)
The forms need to be filled out on-line or on your computer, printed and signed:
- 2014 Off-Campus J Term Medical Information and Release Form - Fill-in, print, and sign (under 18 - parents/guardian must sign).
- 2014 Off- Campus J Term Conditions for Participation, Assumption of Risk Acknowledgment and Financial Agreement - Print and sign (billing parents/guardian must sign). Make sure that both the student and billing parent initial and sign in all areas asking for an initial or a signature.
After you have submitted the entire application, the Program Leader will review your application. You will be notifed of your acceptance into the program between September 13, and September 23, 2013. Once your status is determined by the Program Leader, The Office of Global Education will send you an email and an official letter (one copy to the parents one copy to the student) notifying you of your status. Once you receive this official notice you will have two weeks to pay the $500 deposit. You are welcome to reach out to the Program Leader for specific course related questions or to the Office of Global Education for more general questions.
A Guide to Applying:
Step 1: Open the forms that need to be signed (forms 1 & 2) online (www.hartwick.edu/jterm), fill out the information on-line or on your computer, print, and sign. It is recommended that you start steps 1 & 2 as soon as possible and have these forms ready when you arrive on campus.
Step 2: Make photocopies of your travel ID. For international programs - please photo copy your valid passport photo page or a copy of your passport application. For US programs - please photo copy your driver's license or other state photo identity card. If you do not have a passport, apply for one now.
Step 3: The Online Form is open. Please fill in the information online.
Step 4: Your Program Leader and the Office of Global Education will be notified of your application. When complete, you (and the program's Program Leaders) will receive an email with a summary of your information and a confirmation that your information is complete. At this point, the Program Leader may contact you for more information or to request an interview.
Step 5: Print out the email summary.
Step 6: Collect all forms together, including the summary page from the email as the cover page and staple together.
Step 7: Make a photocopy of application for your records.
Step 8: When you arrive on campus at the beginning of fall semester, submit all documents to the PSGE Center (First Floor Golisano). Only complete applications will be received.
To facilitate a smooth application process, please print out this guide and follow it step by step.

Off-Campus J Term Deadlines
Fall Deadlines (for Off-Campus J Term Programs with Openings)
- September 16, 2013: applications due
- September 23, 2013: After this date, Program Leaders will accept, not accept or waitlist students
- Once your status is determined by the Program Leader, The Office of Global Education will send you an email and an official letter (one copy to the parents one copy to the student) notifying you of your status. Once you receive this official notice you will have two weeks to pay the $500 deposit.
- October 11, 2013: The full payment is due
For all accepted students
Should there be a change in the program fee, students will have two weeks from the notification date or until the last day of classes -- whichever is shorter -- to pay.
