College Level Examination Program (CLEP)
For matriculated students: Credit is offered through the College Level Examination Program (CLEP) under specified conditions for non-traditional students who have acquired mastery of a subject through experience or other avenues outside the traditional classroom setting.
Acceptability of a particular program should be confirmed, in writing, by the Registrar.
Both traditional and non-traditional students must seek approval from the Registrar. The approval must be obtained PRIOR to completion of a CLEP exam. Click here to download the appropriate approval form. If you are a traditional student, you are required to petition to the Committee on Academic Standards (CAS) for exam approval; forms for petitioning can be found online by clicking here.
For non-matriculated students: Normally credit will be granted only to students who meet College entrance requirements and who matriculate for a program of study leading to a degree. The granting of credit will not by itself guarantee that all prerequisites for advanced study have been met. Students who have completed work in elementary courses by examination are urged to consult a departmental advisor before registering for advanced work in a subject.
