Orientation Overview:
At Hartwick College, we make sure you do more so you can be more, and New Student Orientation is an important first step in that personalized journey. During this program, you'll be officially welcomed to the Hartwick community as an important member of the student body.  You will learn more about your new community and begin forming connections with other students, faculty, and staff that serve as the foundation for a successful transition to Hartwick.

Further, you and your fellow new students will lay essential groundwork for your academic journey by completing placement exams and learning about college academic planning resources. At Hartwick we believe that one critical aspect of helping our students achieve success is the one-on-one, personalized approach we take in our academic planning and advising process. Part of our approach is to offer our academic placement exams on-site, rather than online.

During New Student Orientation you will complete both the Writing Placement and Mathematics Placement exams. The results of these placements are used to ensure that you are placed appropriately, in courses that are suitably challenging yet not unreasonably ambitious. Scores from these exams are an important element in the course registration process. If you require testing accommodations during the Writing or Math Placement Exams, contact the Coordinator of Accessibility Services to discuss this request at least one week prior to the exam. (Accommodations can be requested only by the student; the student must state his/her orientation date and the accommodation need).

At Hartwick, academic planning is an individualized process designed to meet the unique needs, strengths, and goals of each student. That process begins right away with New Student Orientation, and will continue during Welcome Weekend and throughout your time at Hartwick. We look forward to working with you for the next 3-4 years as you achieve success here at Hartwick College.
