"I love Hartwick because it feels right. The people, the atmosphere, the classes, everything is just right. It really is the perfect place for me." Emily Morloch

New Student Orientation Dates:
Our New Student Orientation programs were held in June and early July. Students enrolling after this date will attend a make-up Orientation session on Wednesday, August 26.

Residential students will move into their room in the morning of August 26, prior to checking in to New Student Orientation in Yager Hall at 10:00 a.m. The program will run until 5:00 p.m. In addition to the new student program, there will be a family track of programming. See schedules below for more details.

Orientation Overview:

New Student Orientation is an important first step in your Hartwick journey. During this program, you'll be officially welcomed to the community as an important member of the student body.  You will learn more about your new community and begin forming connections with other students, faculty, and staff that serve as the foundation for a successful transition to Hartwick.

During New Student Orientation you will complete both the Writing Placement and Mathematics Placement exams. Because we believe in a personalized approach in the academic planning process, we offer our placement exams on-site, rather than online. Scores from these exams are an important element in the course registration process and ensure that you are placed appropriately, in courses that are suitably challenging yet not unreasonably ambitious.  If you require testing accommodations during the placement exams, contact AccessAbility Services, AccessAbilityServices@hartwick.edu,  to discuss this request at least one week prior to the exam. (Accommodations can be requested only by the student; the student must state his/her orientation date and the accommodation need).

At Hartwick, academic planning is an individualized process designed to meet the unique needs, strengths, and goals of each student. That process begins right away with Orientation, and will continue during Welcome Weekend and throughout your time at Hartwick. We look forward to working with you for the next 3-4 years as you achieve success here at Hartwick College.
