Art Portfolios
Applicants intending to declare a major in studio art must provide a supplemental portfolio. The portfolio should consist of 10 to 20 images, presented in jpeg format on a cd or jump drive accompanied by a hardcopy image list. The images should be numbered for the intended order of review and the list should contain name, title of work, media and date of completion. Short videos may also be included. A SASE must accompany this information for return of the original material.

Portfolio's may also be submitted electronically with a link to your on line portfolio in Flickr, YouTube, or any other photo sharing account. If submitting electronically, please follow the same requirements listed above.

All information should be submitted with your application to Hartwick College. It will be forwarded to the faculty of the department of art and art history for review and comment.

As an alternative, you may also contact the art department to arrange an onsite portfolio review, which you may be able to schedule in conjunction with an on campus admissions interview. An on campus review may not be possible given scheduling conflicts, but the department will make every effort to accommodate an onsite review request. If you are interested in an onsite review, you must contact the admissions office no less than two weeks ahead of your intended campus visit.

The most efficient way to present your portfolio is on a cd, jump drive or electronically. Notification of acceptance into the major or suggestions for further work prior to acceptance into the major will be sent directly from the department.

Final admission into the College is independent of admission to the art major. It is based on a total review of your qualifications, not the portfolio alone.

Art Scholarship
Art students may be eligible for the Foreman Art Scholarship, an award of up to $5,000.

This scholarship supports entering students who have demonstrated superior ability in the fine arts. Five scholarship awards are intended to support first-year students declaring a major in art with a concentration in drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, printmaking, ceramics, glassblowing, or visual communications. Two additional Foreman Art Scholarships are available and are intended to support a first-year student declaring a major in art history and a transfer student declaring a major in art (with a concentration in any of the above studio areas) or art history.

Application Process
Please remember that in addition to the art portfolio and application, a student must submit all materials required for regular applicant ― whether a future first-year student, a transfer student or an international student.
