Conducting Syllabus

Beyond Beating Time, conducting course offered by Hartwick College as taught by Charles Scheider, Musical Director and Conductor, The Catskill Symphony Orchestra.This course includes the following (in no particular order);
1. Thorough harmonic analysis.
2. Thorough thematic analysis.
3. Thorough structural analysis.
4. Use of Left Hand to cue and show dynamics.
5. Thorough stylistic issues.
6. Detailed instruction ("Dos and Don'ts") on the use of bowings.
7. Detailed orchestration analysis.
8. Detailed problem sections and why.
Beginning students may choose a Haydn or Mozart Symphony to begin and then additional works are added as per evaluation ofthe student's needs. Works studied by Hartwick students from the past two years include:
