Psychology Major Requirements
The Psychology Major:
39 credits in psychology, distributed as follows.
At least a B- is required in 110 or 111, and at least a C+ is required in 290 and 291 in order to progress in the major. Psyc 290 may not be repeated for the major. Psyc 290, 291, and all courses numbered 350 and higher must be taken within the department.
- 110 Psychological Science I
- 111 Psychological Science II
- 290 Psychological Research Methods
- 291 Experimental Statistics
- Four (4) Core Courses, selected from:
301 Developmental Psychology or 307 Child Development
302 Clinical Psychology: Abnormal or 306 Personality
303 Social Psychology
304 Cognitive Psychology
- Two (2) Research Courses, selected from the following:
361 Research in Developmental Psychology or 362 Research in Clinical Psychology
363 Research in Social Psychology
364 Research in Cognitive Psychology
366 Research in Learning
367 Research in Child Development
350 Research in Special Topics
- 488 Senior Capstone or 490 Senior Thesis
- 3 additional credits in Psychology
Grades for all courses taken in psychology are used to calculate the average in the major and the average for Departmental Distinction. Students will be awarded Departmental Distinction if they have met all of the following requirements: overall GPA of at least 3.0, psychology GPA of at least 3.5, at least an A- in Psyc 488 or 490, and a public presentation of research.
