ES&P Scholarships

The Environmental Science and Policy (ES&P) program is pleased to announce three scholarship opportunities for students. The scholarships can support student research, internships, and international study opportunities during the upcoming summer or fall, J Term, or spring of the next academic year. Details of each scholarship are below. Applications will be available in early January and deadline for submission is March 15. A faculty mentor is required for each scholarship. Priority is given to students enrolled in the ES&P minor.

1. Pine Lake ES&P Summer Research Scholarship
The Pine Lake ES&P Research Scholarship is awarded annually, on a competitive basis, to one student who plans to conduct student-faculty collaborative research at the R.R. Smith Environmental Field Station at Pine Lake. This scholarship, designed to support summer research, provides a stipend up to $3,000 to support 8-10 weeks of research. The scholarship is available to a student enrolled in the ES&P minor as long as she/he is in good academic standing and has no holds on her/his student account. The research project shall be on any topic relevant to Environmental Science and Policy and conducted at Pine Lake or in the region. A Hartwick faculty member must agree to mentor the project. The recipient agrees to present the results of his or her research at the subsequent all-campus Student Scholarship Showcase and will be encouraged to submit and present his or her research in the form of a publication and/or at an external conference. Housing at Pine Lake is included. Some material and travel costs also may be covered.

2. ES&P Internship Scholarship
The ES&P Internship Scholarship is awarded annually, on a competitive basis, to one student participating in an ES&P related internship at any time during the academic year. This scholarship provides a stipend up to $3,000 to participate in an 8-10 week professionally supervised, off-campus, unpaid internship experience. The scholarship is available to a student enrolled in the ES&P minor as long as she/he is in good academic standing and has no holds on her/his student account. The approved internship must be with an agency involved in environmental science and/or policy. The Office of Career Development & Education in Golisano Hall can assist you in identifying internships. The student also must have approval from a Hartwick College faculty mentor, the Office of Career Development & Education, and the entity hosting the internship. The recipient agrees to present the results of his or her internship at the subsequent all-campus Student Scholarship Showcase and will be encouraged to submit and present his or her research in the form of a publication and/or at an external conference.

3. ES&P International Scholarship
The ES&P International Scholarship is awarded, on a competitive basis, to one student who is participating in an ES&P-related project while studying abroad. This scholarship provides a stipend up to $3,000 to conduct professionally supervised, off-campus research, scholarship, community-based work, internship, or service in an international setting. The scholarship does not support participation in J Term trips or study-abroad courses unless linked to a specific outside-the-classroom project. The scholarship is available to any student enrolled in the ES&P minor as long as she/he is in good academic standing and has no holds on her/his student account. The scholarship is available to any ES&P student with a relevant study-abroad project and an academic mentor supporting the initiative. The scholarship provides funding to support the project during the study-abroad experience--travel, stipend, housing, materials, food, etc. The recipient agrees to present the results of his or her work at the subsequent all-campus Student Scholarship Showcase and will be encouraged to submit and present her/his work in the form of a publication and/or at an external conference.
