Water Works

Statement of Purpose
On May 14, 2004, Hartwick College signed the International Talloires Declaration, which spells out key actions that institutions of higher education should take to raise environmental awareness, reverse environmental degradation, and promote sustainable lifestyles. This commitment to a "greener," sustainable future for the campus, region, and world is explored in "Water Works."

"Water Works" seeks to provide students with an understanding of water and its place in our lives. Throughout the year, events and exhibitions will examine the nature, significance, importance, and role of water on this planet.

UNESCO has proclaimed 2005-2015 as the International Decade for Action "Water for Life." During 2006-07, "Water Works" will provide a multi-disciplinary exploration of the ways human beings understand, celebrate, exploit, and respond to this basic necessity of life.
