This metasite is from the Internet Publications Bureau, Research School of Pacific and Asian Studies at The Australian National University (ANU), Canberra and is part of the WWW Virtual Library project. Extensive listings with regional and country specific links. The site is updated regularly.

UCLA Center for East Asian Studies
The site provides a collection of annotated links to reference works, on-line periodicals, research and teaching institutions, government resources, general interest sites. Organized by country or subject. Included are are also history specific and statistical information sites. Short list also available from the East Asian Library at UCLA.

Asia Source
Large metasite with an extensive webdirectory and special reports. The coverage includes all of Asia as well as the Asian American diaspora. From the the Asia Society, a nonprofit educational organization based in the United States that aims to foster awareness and understanding of the region in the US.

Asia Observer
Detailed website for the Asian region with the focus on current events and background information for individual countries.
The site is maintained by the John Einar Sandvand a former Asia news correspondent.

East and Southeast Asia Directory
Extensive metasite including current events, topical guides as well as country specific resources. Covering East Asia and Southeast Asia as well as Asian Americans in the United States. By Robert Eng, History Dept., University of Redlands. 

PAIR: Portal to Asian Internet Resources
Site maintained by University of Wisconsin-Madison, Ohio State University and the University of Minnesota,  a searchable catalog of over 6,000 resources with a scholarly orientation emphasizing social sciences and the humanities, includes coverage from Turkey to Japan.

An independent news publication, raises awareness about Burma-related issues through unbiased reporting from a Burmese perspective.



Asian History and Studies
Organized and hosted by H-Net, includes reviews and discussions with a searchable discussion archives. The stated purpose of H-ASIA " to enable historians and other Asia scholars to easily communicate current research and teaching interests; to discuss new articles, books, papers, approaches, methods and tools of analysis; to test new ideas and share comments and tips on teaching".

Selected Historical and Contemporary Political Documents
The texts of selected historical and contemporary political documents from various Far Eastern countries. Also includes the documents of US and selected Asian countries' joint agreements. Provided by the University of California, Los Angeles Center for East Asian Studies.

Korean History Project
A searchable site on the History of  Korea, the core consisting of a multimedia version of a 1,400 page manuscript on the history of Korea. There are 40 chapters, with the first 13 currently (May 1999) completed. They include essays, interactive maps, images, sound and video clips, and bibliographies. There is also a timeline from 8000 B.C. through September, 1953.

The Silk Road
Information on the history, culture, and development of this important trade route connecting China with the West, from the early times to the present day. See also the web site of the Silk Road Foundation.

Cambodian Genocide Program
Hosted at Yale, the Cambodian Genocide Program web site includes numerous searchable databases containing among other political document translations, a photo archive, documentation of grave sites and Democratic Kampuchean prisons and a detailed list of references and links.

Revelations from the Russian Archives
Online exhibit at the Library of Congress on new materials emerging after the opening of the Soviet archives in Russia. Provides descriptions and selected reprints of primary sources.

National Bureau of Asian Research
The National Bureau of Asian Research (NBR) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan institution that conducts advanced research on
policy-relevant issues in Asia, based in the US.

Asian Human Rights Commission
The Asian Human Rights Commission (AHRC) based in Hong Kong  'seeks to promote greater awareness and realisation of human rights in the Asian region, and to mobilise Asian and international public opinion to obtain relief and redress for the victims of human rights violations'.
