American Music Center
Homepage for the American Music Center's library (which specializes in jazz and contemporary music) containing a circulating collection of over 55,000 scores and recordings. Provides assistance to composers and performing groups.

Andante
A comprehensive site for classical music. Offers reference resources, news, music reviews and a calendar of related events.

ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers
Homepage for the organization distributing performance royalties to its affiliates. Provides access to the ASCAP Clearance Express Databases of the ASCAP repertory (searchable by title, composer, publisher, and performer information).

Audio Archive of Internet Archive
The Audio Archive of Internet Archive comprises several discreet groups of recorded materials, each administered by a different organization. There are noncommercial recordings--more than 16,000 to date--of "trade friendly" artists. All shows are in the little-used SHN (.shn) format instead of MP3. Other music pages of the audio archive include Netlabels, which offers independent, alternative music labels in a variety of formats, including MP3, and Open Source Audio. 

Beethoven Bibliography Database
Index to books and periodical articles about Beethoven plus indexing for first and early editions of his musical scores. Maintained by the Ira F. Brilliant Center for Beethoven Studies at San Jose State University.

CAIRSS for Music
Database of citations to music research literature. CAIRSS completely indexes 15 primary music journals and selectively indexes articles from more than a thousand other journals. Developed and maintained by the University of Texas at San Antonio and Southern Methodist University.

Digital Tradition Folk Song Database
Database containing words and music to thousands of folk songs. Download the entire database or browse by title of song.

Doctoral Dissertations in Musicology Online
Listing of doctoral dissertations by broad subject headings since 1996. Maintained and updated by the School of Music at Indiana University.

Early American Secular Music and its European Sources
Indexes of early Amercian secular music from 1589 - 1839. Indexes for Name, Text, Source, Genre, Theater Work and three for Music (an Incipit Index, a Stress Note Index and an Interval Index). Includes over 75,000 pieces of music from some 1,200 sources. From the Colonial Music Institute in Annapolis, MD.

GMD Music Archive: Scores
Ready-to-print scores for a number of different composers, including Bach, Kirnberger, Mozart, and others.

Harry Fox Agency
Information source, clearinghouse, and monitoring service for licensing musical copyrights. The Harry Fox Agency represents over 13,000 American music publishers and licenses a large number of the uses of music in the U.S. on records, tapes, and CD's. Includes a list of songs licensed by HFA searchable by song title or writer.

Historic American Sheet Music
The Digital Scriptorium of the Rare Book, Manuscript and Special Collections Library at Duke University has created a site that icludes digital images of 16,000 pages of sheet music published in the United States between 1850 and 1920. A variety of musical categories are represented, such as vaudeville and musicals, protest songs, plantation songs, dance music, Civil War songs, and songs from World War I. The site includes background information about the music, as well as striking illustrations.

Indiana University Music Library
Links to music sites on the Internet arranged by categories such as "Genres and Types of Music," "Individual Musicians," "Composers," etc. Maintained by the William and Gayle Cook Music Library.

J.S. Bach Archive and Bibliography
Biographical and critical information about Bach, including a bibliography of primary and secondary resources on the composer.

A large database from the University of LaTrobe, browsable by text, composer, genre, manuscript,  and liturgical feast.

Music  Education Resource Base
Bibliographic database of music and music education resources culled from Canadian and international journals as well as other sources. Indexes music literature from 1956-present for the resources covered.

MusicalOnline
A comprehensive, well-organized research resource that provides access to such topics as music pedagogy, theory, lectures, and other scholarly works. The extensive collection of links covers such areas as ethnomusicology, music therapy, opera research, and technology and music.

Naxos Music Library
The Naxos Music Library is a comprehensive collection of classical music and includes Classical music, Jazz, World, Folk and Chinese music with over 165,000 tracks and biographical information on composers or artists.

The New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians
Searchable online version of the 29 volume print publication, includes bibliographical references. Integrates the 4 Vols. New Grove Dictionary of Opera and the 3 Vols. New Grove Dictionary of Jazz.

Operabase
Search tool for accessing information on opera. Includes search engines for locating season schedules of opera houses worldwide, performances by singers, and opera timelines. Also offers links to other opera resources that include biographies, synopses, libretti, and newsgroups.

Popular Song Database
An index to popular songs NOT indexed in Where's That Tune?, an index to  songs in fakebooks  by William D. Goodfellow. Developed by the University of Washington's Music Library.

UTK Song Index
Index to songs in anthologies. Offers many different ways of searching/retrieval, including title, composer, language, and song type searching. Developed by the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.
