Senior Year

Senior year is the time to transition from student to professional. We’ve got your back.

At long last – you’re a senior! It is more critical than ever that you use all the available resources to assist you in your post-graduate plans. The year is going to go fast and the rest of your life is waiting for you. Let’s get started.

  1. Meet with a Career Advisor to design a job search strategy or finalize your graduate/professional school search timeline and plans.
  2. Attend Career Services Workshops targeted for seniors and Senior Night at the PSGE Center.
  3. Talk to your family about your post-graduate plans and gain their support of your goals. Have those critical conversations with them about expenses and budget.
  4. Ask faculty and employers to provide references for you.
  5. Revise and update your resume and draft a cover letter. For graduate school, complete your personal statement.
  6. Prepare for graduate school and job interviews with a mock interview with a Career Advisor.
  7. Research companies/organizations and the career opportunities they offer.
  8. Create a LinkedIn profile and join the Career Services and Hartwick Alumni groups.
  9. Participate in Fall Internship and Opportunities Fair and build your network of contacts.
  10. Network with Hartwick alumni through the Link Experience programs.
  11. Participate in the T.A.S.T.E program in your geographic area of interest to start learning about places to live, find potential roommates, and network with Hartwick alumni in this region.
  12. Formulate a “Plan B” in case you need to make last-minute career adjustments.
  13. Be proactive about applying for jobs. Don’t just apply for one position.
