Children's Literature

Beginning with picture books and following through to young adult literature, this course investigates the history of children's literature, the forms that it has taken through time, controversial literature and addressing challenges, portrayal of book characters and plots in film, and the role of illustrations.

Students will create their own picture book and non-fiction young adult book from one of the following genres: traditional and modern fantasy, contemporary realistic fiction, historical fiction, science fiction, biography, informational books, poetry, and multi-cultural and international books.

This course is taught by Associate Professor of Education Johanna Mitchell.
