The President’s Award for Liberal Arts in Practice recognizes a member of the Hartwick community who demonstrates his or her commitment to bringing theory and practice together to generate new knowledge and understandings; continually develops his or her capacity for critical thinking, ethical action, and reflection; seeks to build a deeper understanding of similarities and differences across time and space; values and applies diverse approaches to building knowledge; expresses the significance and importance of individual and collective actions; encourages others to take inspiration from the products of human ingenuity; maintains a passion for learning; nurtures creativity; has made meaningful contributions to present and future communities; and honors others—all while encouraging others to do the same. Selection for this award is made by the President of Hartwick and presented at a signature Hartwick event.

To qualify, candidates should be from a graduating class two to fifteen years prior to the year in which they are considered for this award (e.g. for the 2015 award, the classes of 2000‐2013 would be considered).

Distinguished Alumnus/a Award
This award is intended to recognize those graduate alumni who have distinguished themselves by outstanding achievements in their professional careers and/or civic or charitable activities. There are no restrictions regarding time since graduation in order to be considered for this award.

Outstanding Volunteer Award
This award recognizes those individuals who have demonstrated outstanding and sustained volunteer service for the College. Nominees may be graduate or non‐graduate alumni, retired employees, parents, or friends of the College.

Outstanding Employee Award
This award recognizes a member of the faculty or staff of Hartwick College who has gone above and beyond the scope of his/her job responsibilities to make outstanding contributions to the work of the Alumni Association and/or provide significant assistance to alumni through professional networking, career guidance, providing a link between alumni and current students, and/or other meaningful contributions connecting alumni to each other and to the College.

Please note you may nominate the same person for more than one award. Final selection for the Distinguished Alumni, Outstanding Young Alumni, Meritorious Service, Outstanding Volunteer and Outstanding Employee awards are made by the Alumni Board after careful deliberation. There are no restrictions on the number of nominations that can be submitted by one individual.
