Todd McGuinness begins his third season as head men’s basketball coach at Hartwick in 2011-2012.
In just his second season with the team, he led the Hawks to a 17-11 record last year and their first ever Empire 8 title. The team also made its first NCAA appearance in 15 years. Their 10 Empire 8 wins is tied for the most in conference play in the last 17 seasons.
Freshman Jared Suderley garnered ECAC Upstate Rookie of the Year, d3hoops.com All-East Region Rookie of the Year and Empire 8 Rookie of the Year along with being named the Empire 8 Tournament MVP.
In his first campaign with the Hawks, he guided the Blue and White to a 10-14 overall record and a 7-9 mark in the Empire 8. The seven E8 victories is 'Wick's highest win total in conference play since the 2000-01 season. The Hawks' sixth place finish in the standings is also their highest since the '00-'01 squad placed fourth in the league.
A former assistant men's basketball coach for Hartwick from 2002-2004, McGuinness spent three seasons as the assistant men's basketball coach at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH. Prior to his three-year stint at Case Western, McGuinness spent two seasons (2004-2006) as the assistant coach at Vassar College, in Poughkeepsie, NY.
McGuinness, who emerged from a pool of more than 150 applicants, became the 19th head coach in the 80-year history of the men's basketball program at Hartwick. In the 2002-03 season McGuinness served under the tutelage of Tim McGraw '88, and in 2003-04 for first-year head coach Paul Culpo.

After spending two years at the College as an assistant coach, I know Hartwick College is a special place both academically and athletically. It is an exciting time for the men's basketball program after winning the ECAC Championship in 2008-09. I want to keep building off that momentum and compete for an Empire 8 Conference Championship."
A native of Pittsburgh, PA, McGuinness played four seasons of collegiate basketball at Bethany College (WV) where he received his bachelor's degree in physical education (K-12) in 2002. He was a three-year starter and a co-captain his junior and senior seasons. McGuinness helped lead the Bison to two President's Athletic Conference (PAC) championships (2001 and 2002), consecutive postseason appearances in the ECAC Tournament, and the NCAA Division III Tournament in 2002.
Prior to Bethany, McGuinness was a three-year player at Gateway High School, where he was a Pittsburgh Post-Gazette All-Section first-team selection in 1998.
