Dereck Treadwell enters his seventh year at the helm of the Hartwick cross country programs.

On September 21, 2004, Treadwell joined the Hartwick athletic department as an interim cross country and track and field head coach. Following the 2004-05 campaign, he had the interim tag removed and took over the controls of the program officially.

Treadwell was responsible for turning former all-conference performer Autumn Swan into a national qualifier. The former standout qualified for back to back NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships; held the Empire 8 record in the 10,000-meters and qualified for the NCAAs in that event as well.

Treadwell, who was a finalist in the 1,500 meters at the U.S. Olympic Trials in 1996, served as the head coach of the men's and women's cross country teams at Husson College (Maine) during the 2003 season. Prior to his experience at Husson, he was the head coach of the cross country teams at Belchertown High School (Mass.) during the 1999 and 2000 seasons.

"I have seen what can be attained through hard work and dedication on the international, national, collegiate and high school levels," said Treadwell. "I have trained with some of the top coaches in the country during my career, and I'm looking forward to teaching and developing training programs for the student-athletes at Hartwick."

Treadwell received a bachelor's degree in landscape architecture from the University of Maine in 1998. He was a four-year member of the cross country and track and field teams, earning NCAA Division I All-American honors in the 1,500 meters in 1996 and the mile run in 1997.

He was honored as the North Atlantic Conference Indoor Track Athlete of the Year in 1997. Treadwell was a 14-time All-New England Team selection and was named to the ICAAAA/Eastern College Athletic Conference Team four times. On October 26, 2008, Treadwell was recognized for his outstanding collegiate career as he was inducted into the University of Maine Hall of Fame.

On the professional level, Treadwell competed and trained as a member of the NIKE Farm Team from 2001-2004. The squad, which is an elite post-collegiate racing team sponsored by NIKE and based in Palo Alto (Calif.), competes in various international and national competitions. Treadwell competed in the U.S. Olympic Trials, U.S. Nationals, Penn Relays and the Mount San Antonio College Relays as a member of the team.

Treadwell was a counselor for the Boston Athletic Association's Training Basics Program in 1997 and 1998. He also served as a counselor at The County cross country camp hosted by the University of Maine at Presque Isle in 1996 and 1997.
