`Wick Field Hockey Blanks Rochester

ONEONTA, N.Y. - The Hartwick field hockey team snapped a four-game losing streak with a 2-0 victory over the University of Rochester, Sunday afternoon at Wright Stadium. The game concluded the 2007 home schedule.

Hartwick, which moved to 8-9 on the year, opened scoring early as Samantha Galm (Kingston, N.Y.) struck for her seventh goal of the year at 1:45 of the first half. Hartwick took the 1-0 advantage into intermission.

Amanda Barton (Endicott, N.Y.) gave the Hawks some extra cushion 5:36 into the second half as the sophomore beat Rachel Cahan for her fourth score of the campaign.

Katie Thorpe (South Windsor, Conn.) made five saves in the net for Hartwick en route to posting her second complete-game shutout of the year. The Yellowjackets fell to 10-8 overall.

The Hawks will now travel back to Washington, Pa. for the Empire 8 Championships starting Saturday. Hartwick, which will serve as the fourth-seed, will take on top -seeded Washington & Jefferson in the opening round. The start time to the semifinal game will be announced Monday.
