ROCHESTER, N.Y. - After posting back-to-back shutouts against league rivals Elmira and Nazareth, two Hartwick College field hockey players were recognized as the Empire 8 offensive and goalie of the week, it was announced.
Jen Kaye (Altamont, N.Y.) and Katie Thorpe (South Windsor, Conn.) were instrumental as the Hawks remained undefeated in league play with a 9-0 victory over Elmira and most recently a 1-0 decision over Nazareth.
Kaye, a freshman, plated two goals and dished off an assist in the blasting of the Soaring Eagles. On Saturday, she posted the game's lone goal in the 20-minute mark of the first half to lead Hartwick to the blanking of the Golden Flyers. With her three-goal, one-assist week, she now has a team-leading 16 points (6 goals, 4 assists) in 10 games.
Thorpe went the distance stopping four shots for her first solo shutout of her career against Nazareth. Earlier in the week, the sophomore played 35 minutes and stopped two shots in the victory over Elmira. Thorpe has a 5-4 record on the year with 68 saves and close to an .815 save percentage.
Hartwick, 6-4 overall, will return to action this Saturday as it travels to face Ithaca. The game gets started at 1 p.m.
