`Wick Field Hockey Falls in E8 Semifinals to W&J

WASHINGTON, PA. - Beth Kelley scored the game's lone goal and Ashley Rund made it stand up as Washington & Jefferson ended Hartwick's season with a 1-0 victory in the semifinals of the Empire 8 Field Hockey Championships, Saturday.

The Presidents, who improved to 15-3 overall, scored the game-winner at 19:22 of the first half as Kelley drove home her 16th goal of the year off a corner from Erika Ruddy.

Rund made four saves in the victory for W&J as it advances to the finals of the tournament.

Hartwick's goalie, Katie Thorpe (South Windsor, Conn.) posted four stops in the defeat.

The Hawks end the season with an 8-10 record. Hartwick only loses one senior off the 2007 roster.
