Field Hockey Earns NFHCA National Academic Award for 7th Consecutive Year

CHANDLER, AZ - The Hartwick College field hockey team was one of 100 teams from around the nation to earn the 2009 National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III National Academic Team Award. The award is presented to field hockey teams achieving a grade-point average of over 3.0 for the season. Hartwick has now won the award in each of the last seven seasons dating back to 2003.

The 2009 Gladiator by SGI/NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad was also recently released which included 10 Hartwick student-athletes. Senior Amanda Valliere (Lebanon, NH/Lebanon) headlined the list, earning the recognition in each of the past four seasons. She has a cumulative grade-point average of 3.859.

The NFHCA National Academic Squad recognizes student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or higher through the first semester of the 2009-10 academic year.

Hartwick's field hockey team ended the 2009 season with an overall record of 13-8 and a conference mark of 4-1, earning the second seed in the Empire 8 playoffs. The Hawks gained a berth in the ECAC Mid-Atlantic Tournament where they advanced all the way to the championship match, upsetting the #1 and #4 tournament seeds in the process.
