TROY, NY - Freshman Kelsey Kimble (Dingmans Ferry, PA/Delaware Valley) tipped in a shot from senior Samantha Galm (Kingston, NY/Kingston) from in close to lift Hartwick College to a 2-1 overtime victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in non-conference field hockey action on Wednesday. The Hawks remain unbeaten on the season, improving to 3-0, while the Engineers fall to 0-4 overall.

Morgan Cestari (Lake Grove, NY/Centerreach) started the game-winning play from the corner working the ball to Galm. Galm's shot from five yards out was deflected by Kimble who slipped the ball past RPI netminder Briana Earle (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker) with 10:10 left on the clock.

Rensselaer opened the game's scoring, despite a 12-3 deficit in shots, as senior Margaret Chowainec (Burlington, CT/Lewis Mills) picked up the loose ball off a Hartwick stick and sent a low shot through traffic just 6:37 in to the game.

Momentum shifted in Hartwick's favor as the team gained control of the ball with less than two minutes to play and charged up the field. Galm sent a shot at the net, which was saved by RPI's Alex Lamparski (Malvern, PA/Country Day School of the Sacred Heart), but the ball caromed out to the stick of Cestari, who scored the equalizer with just 1:31 left in the contest.

The Hawks doubled up the Engineers in shots for the contest, 22-11, while Rensselaer had 11 corners to Hartwick's nine. Keeper Mackenzie Chapman (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) made four saves for her third straight victory in the Hawks' net, while Earle stopped nine shots and falls to 0-3.

The Engineers return to action on Saturday when they travel to Cortland State for a 1 p.m. contest. Hartwick is also in action on Saturday, hosting St. Lawrence at 12 p.m. at Wright Stadium.
