Hartwick and Wilkes Set to Square Off in ECAC Quarterfinals Wednesday

ONEONTA, NY - Hartwick's field hockey team opens up the ECAC Mid-Atlantic Tournament on Wednesday against Wilkes. The Hawks are the eighth seed with the Colonels being the top seed in the tournament.

'Wick has qualified for the ECAC's four other times since head coach Anna Meyer's first season in 1988. Wednesday's match is the first road match for the Hawks in six ECAC matches played.

Hartwick won the ECAC crown in two out of their four appearances in 1992 and 1995. In '92, The Hawks defeated Mary Washington (3-1) and Dickinson (2-0) at home to take the title, and they downed Kean (2-0) and Drew (3-2) en route to the 1995 trophy. 'Wick fell in the opening round to Misericordia (2-0) in 2002, and King's (3-1) in its last appearance in 2005.

Freshman Kelsey Kimble (Dingmans Ferry, PA) and junior Jen Kaye (Altamont, NY) have totaled of 15 of the team's 30 goals this season. Kimble leads the team with eight goals and adds four assists for a team-best 20 points. She also has four game-winning tallies. Kaye paces the Hawks in assists with five. Sam Galm (Kingston, NY) adds five goals, and Morgan Cestari (Lake Grove, NY) has four, and Brittany Baughman (Niskayuna, NY) has three this season for the Hartwick offense. Goalie Mackenzie Chapman (Niskayuna, NY) has four shutouts in 2009 and a goals against average of 1.21.

The Colonels bring a 15-3 record into Wednesday's contest. The team suffered a heartbreaking loss against King's College in the Freedom Conference Tournament, 2-1, in overtime. Wilkes is led by freshman Jenna DiSabatino who has 17 goals and 14 assists in the 2009 season. Jennifer Keegan has 15 goals, while Amanda Peters has accumulated 12 goals and eight assists. The Colonels have outscored opponents 70-29 over the course of the season. Sophomore Lindsey Davenport has three shutouts, holds a 1.64 goals against average.

The game between the Hawks and Colonels takes place at 2:00 p.m. at Artillery Park in Kingston, PA. The winner advances to the semifinal round on Saturday. A Wilkes victory and the Colonels would host on the weekend. A win for Hartwick and the Hawks would travel to the highest remaining seed after the quarterfinal round.
