  January 6, 2009

CAPE COD, MA - The Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) announced its 2008 Northwest Region Division III Football All-Star teams yesterday evening. Hartwick stars Jason Boltus (Baldwinsville, NY) and Jack Phelan (Slingerlands, NY) both were recognized for their tremendous accomplishments on the field in 2008. Boltus was named the ECAC Northwest Player of the Year and landed on the first team. Phelan was a first team selection for the second straight season.

The prolific pair helped make Hartwick College the top-ranked passing team in the country in the Division III ranks this season averaging just under 400 yards per game (397.3 ypg). The Hawks ended up second in the nation in total offense (544.20 ypg) behind only national champion Mount Union (546.13 ypg), and third in scoring offense (43.90 ppg). Boltus and Phelan connected 70 times for 1,533 yards and 26 trips to the end zone this season.

Boltus has already been named an Associated Press Little All-American, and the Empire 8 and d3football.com East Region Offensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive time in 2008. He was also a regional finalist for the Gagliardi Award for the second straight season. He broke the NCAA Division III career yards record this season and led the country in total offense and passing yards per game, duplicating the feat from his junior campaign.

Phelan was phenomenal in 2008 and was named an American Football Coaches' Association (AFCA) All-American, an Associated Press Little All-American, and a d3football.com First Team All-American for his play. His 26 touchdown catches equaled a 10-year old NCAA Division III record and he led the nation in both receiving yards and receiving yards per game for the second straight year.
