'Wick Football Earns ECAC Bowl Bid

  November 17, 2008

ONEONTA, NY - The Hartwick College 2008 football season will have one more chapter this coming weekend. The Hawks, following their 31-21 regular-season finale win against Utica, will host Brockport in the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Northwest Bowl Championship this coming Saturday at Wright Stadium at 1 p.m.

This is the second straight season Hartwick (7-2, 4-2 Empire 8) has qualified for post-season play after competing in the NCAA Tournament a season ago. 'Wick has also competed in ECAC Bowl games in each of the 1998, 2000, 2001, and 2002 seasons.

The Hawks and Golden Eagles are two of just five teams from New York State to qualify for an ECAC Bowl game this season with RPI and Alfred tangling in the ECAC Northeast Bowl, and St. John Fisher traveling to Husson for the ECAC North Atlantic Bowl.

The game could have the makings of an offensive showcase as the Hawks average over 41 points per game and the Golden Eagles are putting up over 30 points per contest.

Brockport ended the regular season 6-4 overall and 5-3 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC). After starting the season 1-3, Brockport has won five of its last six contests, including a 44-16 blowout of Buffalo State last weekend.

The Hawks have amassed 371 points this season, are ranked in the top 10 nationally in scoring offense, and have won six of their last seven outings dating back to the Oct. 4 road win at St. John Fisher.

The two teams have played only four times with the last meeting coming in 1950. The Hawks earned shutout wins in 1947 (27-0) and 1948 (30-0) before the two teams tied 0-0 in 1949. Their final contest ended in a 6-0 Golden Eagle win in Rochester.

Tickets for Saturday's event will be $5 for adults and $3 for students with proper identification.
