D3Football.com Names Phelan First Team All-American

  December 22, 2008
Jack Phelan tries to elude an Alfred defender earlier this season. He was named an AP Little All-American this week.

MINNEAPOLIS, MN - For the third time in less than a week, Jack Phelan (Slingerlands, NY) has been named an All-American. After receiving American Football Coaches' Association (AFCA) and Associated Press Little All-America honors, the senior wide receiver was named a D3football.com First Team All-American this past weekend.

Phelan was a preseason D3football.com All-American earlier this season and was also a first team selection at the conclusion of the 2007 campaign.

He accumulated 3,230 receiving yards over his 24-game, three-year career with the Hawks including racking up 3,161 over the past two seasons. His 1,628 yards last season ranks 7th all-time in Division III history, while his 1,533 this year ranks 13th.

Phelan has averaged 134.6 receiving yards per game in his career which is good enough for 4th in Division III history. His 50 career touchdown catches is a Hartwick record and also the 8th-highest total in D-3 history.

This season, Phelan recorded the top two single-game yardage totals in Division III. On Oct. 25 on the road against Mount Ida, he registered a career-high 311 yards, and in the season opener against Western New England he recorded 289 yards. His performance against Mount Ida is the 12th-highest single game yardage total in the history of Division III football.

Hartwick finished 8-3 overall this season, second in the Empire 8 standings, and hosted the ECAC Northwest Bowl qualifying for postseason play for the second straight year.
