Empire 8, ECAC Name Cocozziello Player of the Week

ROCHESTER, NY - Following a pair of strong performances to start to 2009 year, Hawk guard Jan Cocozziello (Scotch Plains, NJ) has been named both Co-Empire 8 and Co-ECAC Upstate Men's Basketball Player of the Week. He shares both honors with Alfred University forward Jared Patt.

Cocozziello scored 24 points and led all scorers in both Hartwick conference contests against St. John Fisher and Nazareth on Friday and Saturday night. He shot 18 for 26 from the floor (69 percent), pulled down 10 rebounds, and recorded team-highs of eight assists and three steals in the two games. He hit 9 of 10 shots from the field in a 15-point Hawks' victory over the Golden Flyers on Saturday.

With his pair of 24-point performances in this weekend's games, Cocozziello took over sole possession of 4th place on the all-time Hartwick scoring list with 1,556 points passing Barry Lewis (1956-60). It was also the 38th and 39th time, respectively, that the senior stalwart has scored at least 20 points in a game over the course of his four-year career at 'Wick.
