Blazek Tabbed Empire 8 Rookie of the Week for Third Time

ROCHESTER, NY - Hartwick College freshman guard Mark Blazek (Erie, PA) has been named the Empire 8 Rookie of the Week for his efforts in the Hawks' last three games. It marks the third time this season and second time in just three weeks that Blazek has earned the honor.

Blazek averaged 14.7 points, shot 52 percent from the field, and hit 11 three-pointers in a 2-1 week for Hartwick. He dropped in a game-high 18 points with four 3-pointers in the Hawks' loss to Utica on Tuesday and followed that with four 3-pointers and 15 points in a win over Mass. College of Liberal Arts on Wednesday. Blazek then hit three 3-pointers and tallied 11 points in an upset win over RIT on Sunday.

Blazek has hit 45 three-pointers this season which is the second-highest total by any Empire 8 rookie. He leads Hartwick in three-pointers, is shooting just under 40% from beyond the arc, and ranks second in scoring (11.0 ppg), assists (43), and steals (23) on the team.

The Hartwick men's basketball team holds a record of 11-12 overall with a road game at Alfred on Friday and a home game versus Stevens Saturday still remaining on the regular-season schedule.
