Treadwell to be Inducted Into University of Maine Hall of Fame

ORONO, MAINE - Hartwick College men's and women's cross country coach Dereck Treadwell is one of six former standout Black Bear athletes to be inducted into the University of Maine Hall of Fame this weekend.

Treadwell was a five time North Atlantic Conference Champion and a two-time New England Champion at the University of Maine. He was named an All-American in 1996 when he finished 11th in the NCAA Championships in the 1,500-meters. He also placed 11th in the 1,500-meters at the 1996 Olympic Trials. He set nine school records, five of which still stand today.

Treadwell will join former ice hockey standout David Capuano, track and field Olympian Victoriya Rybalko, baseball player Russ Quetti, administrator Dr. Rome Rankin, and Norm Tardiff of the Black Bear football and baseball teams in the induction class of 2008.

Treadwell has been at the helm of the Hawks' cross country programs for the last five seasons. In addition to Treadwell's coaching duties at 'Wick, he also just representing the United States in the 2008 ITU Duathlon World Championships in Remini, Italy, from Sept. 26-28, 2008.

Treadwell and the other five honorees will be recognized at Homecoming Weekend on Oct. 25 and 26, 2008. They will be honored at the football game on Saturday, Oct. 25 against Northeastern and at the men's ice hockey game that same day against the Huskies as well. They will be formally inducted in a ceremony at the Black Bear Inn in Orono on Sunday, Oct. 26, 2008, at noon.
