AKRON, OHIO - Steve Zakuani and Pablo Moreira each tallied goals to pace #22 Akron to a 2-0 victory over Hartwick in men's soccer action Saturday evening at Lee Jackson Field. The game marked the first-ever contest for the Hawks in the Mid-American Conference.
Akron, now 8-2-1 overall, got all it needed at 39:03 of the first half as Zakuani tallied his second goal of the year off a feed from Matt Augustine. The Zips headed into intermission with that 1-0 advantage. In the fourth minute of the second half, Moreira beat Jeremy Vuolo (Downington, Pa.) for his third marker of the year with a shot from the right side to the left post.
Vuolo made seven saves in the net for Hartwick, while Akron goalie Evan Bush grabbed two stops.
The Hawks, now 3-4-2 overall, return to action next Sunday afternoon as they travel to face Bowling Green. The game is set for a 1 p.m. start at Cochrane Field.
