Hartwick Men Tie Colgate

  October 24, 2007
HAMILTON, N.Y. - The Hartwick men's soccer team posted its sixth draw of the season in a 2-2 tie with Colgate, Wednesday evening at Van Doren Field.

Trailing 1-0 and with less than seven minutes left in regulation, Steve Miller took a pass from Eric Anton and buried it past Jeremy Vuolo (Downingtown, Pa.) for his fourth goal of the year. Nothing could be settled in the final 27 minutes of playing time.

Hartwick got a break at 19:22 of the first half. With the Raider goalie coming out to stop a shot by John Paul Boyle (Renfrew, Scotland), a Colgate player attempted to clear the ball from inside the goalie box and accidentally kicked it in the net. Hartwick was credited with a team goal. The Hawks took the 1-0 lead into half.

After the Raiders evened the score at 1-1 as Anton notched his fourth goal of the campaign at 51:41, Hartwick regained the advantage as Jonathan Garcia-Torres (Brentwood, N.Y.) connected for his second of the year from inside the left side of the goalie box.

Vuolo and his counterpart, Colgate's David Cappuccio, each posted four saves in 110 minutes of action.

In the previous 43 meetings in the series that dates back to 1961, Hartwick and Colgate had only tied on two occasions. The Hawks had won the last four games and held a 36-5-2 advantage entering this evening's tilt.

Hartwick, 3-4-6 overall, will host its final regular-season game of the year, Sunday, as Mid American Conference foe Northern Illinois comes to town. The game at Elmore Field with the defending MAC champions begins at noon.
