  September 14, 2007

PHILADELPHIA, PA. - Derek Hobson's goal with 27:33 remaining in the second half propelled the University of Pennsylvania to a 2-1 victory over Hartwick, Friday evening at Rhodes Field in the first round meeting of the Penn Soccer Classic.

The Quakers, now 1-3 overall, opened the scoring in the 30th minute of action as Kevin Unger took a feed from Alex Grendi and beat `Wick goalie Jeremy Vuolo on the low right side for his second goal of the season. Penn took that 1-0 lead into intermission.

It didn't take the Hawks long to tie the game up to begin the second half - 67 seconds to be exact. With 43:53 left, John Paul Boyle (Renfrew, Scotland) beat Drew Healy in the box for his third score of the year.

With the contest knotted at 1-1, Hobson connected on his first tally of the year from Brian Mascarenhas and John Elicker.

Hartwick, 3-2 overall, will face Lafayette in a match on Sunday to conclude play in the tournament. Earlier in the day, the Leopards downed LaSalle 1-0 in the Classic.
