  October 20, 2007

ONEONTA, N.Y. - John Paul Boyle (Renfrew, Scotland) posted two goals and assisted on another, but it wasn't enough for a victory as Hartwick posted a 3-3 draw with Western Michigan in Mid American Conference soccer action, Saturday evening at Elmore Field.

WMU opened the scoring in the second minute of the game as CJ Brown blasted a shot from 15 yards past Hartwick goalie Jeremy Vuolo (Downingtown, Pa.) off an assisted pass from Tom Oatley. However at 2:59, Hartwick's John Paul Boyle (Renfrew, Scotland) countered with the first of his two goals on the evening by beating Casey Aubil off a pass from Chris Jackson (Manchester, England).

The Broncos, now 7-7-1 overall (0-2-1 in the MAC) regained the lead at 23:15 as Ryan Symington netted his first goal of the campaign. At 31:07, the Hawks answered as Barry Pearson (Linlithgow, Scotland) dished off a pass to Boyle, and the junior unleashed a blast from 16 yards out for his sixth goal of the year. Right before intermission, Hartwick gained its first lead as Boyle set up Michael Cunningham (Dunedin, New Zealand) for his first collegiate marker. The Hawks took a 3-2 lead into intermission. Jordan Fylonenko set up Brown's second goal of the contest at 63:10.

Both Vuolo and WMU's Casey Aubil tallied four saves in the draw. Hartwick had an 18-14 advantage in the shot column. With the tie, the Hawks have now posted a school record five draws in a single season.

Hartwick returns to action Wednesday evening as it tangles with instate rival Colgate in Hamilton. The game begins at 7 p.m. It will be the 44th meeting between the two schools with the Hawks holding a commanding 35-5-2 advantage in the series.
