KANSAS CITY, KS - This weekend the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) announced its 2009 All-Region Teams. Hartwick landed a pair of players on the All-Great Lakes Region Team with the selection of junior back Owen Botting (Billingshurst, England/Heidelberg College) and sophomore forward Dan Summers (Banstead, England/Sutton Grammar). Botting and Summers were both third team picks. National finalist Akron and Hartwick were the only two Mid-American Conference teams to receive all-region selections.
Botting, who led the Hawks in assists for the second straight season, was tied for 2nd in the MAC this season in helpers (7) and tied for 3rd in assists per game (0.39). He picked up assists in five Hartwick victories this season over Hartford, Buffalo, Northern Illinois, Florida Atlantic, and Syracuse. He also assisted both Hartwick goals in a 3-2 setback at #1 Akron in the regular season finale. Botting's lone tally of the year was the game-winning strike in 'Wick's 3-2 come-from-behind victory in the MAC Semifinals over Western Michigan.
In two seasons with the Hawks, Botting has accumulated two goals and 14 assists. Both goals have been game-winning tallies and he is just one assist shy of cracking the all-time top 20 at the College.
Summers was the Hawks' top point producer this season with six goals and three assists for 15 points. He finished the season ranked 7th in the MAC in goals per game (0.38) and 8th in points per game (0.94). Summers was also tied for 4th in the conference in game-winning goals (0.19) after netting the win-clinching tallies against Hartford, #15 Dartmouth, and Syracuse.
In two seasons with Hartwick men's soccer, the sophomore striker has registered nine goals and assisted five other Hawk tallies.
