Hawks Remain in 7th at UNYSCSA Meet

SYRACUSE, NY - The Hartwick men's swimming and diving team remains in 7th place in the UNYSCSA standings after 13 events. 'Wick also sits 5th in the Empire 8. The competition, which takes place at Nottingham High School in Syracuse, will wrap up tomorrow with the final seven events.

Sophomore Michael Phillips (Austin, TX) and the Hawks' 800 freestyle relay team both turned in top 5 finishes on the day for Hartwick. Phillips swam a personal best 4:04.88 in the 400 individual medley to finish in third place. Both his times in the prelims and finals were NCAA B-cut times. Freshmen Chris Willcox (Dresher, PA) and Conor Dwyer (Barrington, RI) both registered top 10 efforts in the event. Willcox was 7th with a finals time of 4:15.73. It marked the 8th fastest time in Hartwick history. Dwyer's 4:19.13 in the preliminaries was 10th all-time at 'Wick.

The Hartwick 800 free relay team of Dwyer, and classmates Cody Cupit (Nacogdoches, TX), Josh McNorton (Sanford, NC), and Travis Bueno (Clifton Park, NY) placed 4th in the state in the event. The foursome combined for a time of 7:13.44 in the prelims and shaved over 10 seconds off their mark for a 7:03.10 showing in the finals.

Phillips, Willcox, William MacElveen (Poughkeepsie, NY), and Lydon Schultz (Mount Pleasant, SC) also teamed up for 6th place in the 200 medley relay in 1:36.20.

In the 100 backstroke event, junior Eric Goble (Bellefontaine, OH) placed 13th in 54.77. He was followed by MacElveen in 19th (55.50) and Cupit in 22nd (55.57). Goble would also place 21st in the 100 butterfly.

Tim George (Wiscasset, ME) and Kaird Durocher (Bethlehem, PA) finished 15th and 17th, respectively, in the 200 freestyle. George swam the finals in 1:47.64 with Durocher just over a second behind in 1:48.67.

The final day of competition begins tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. with the preliminaries followed by the finals at 6:30 p.m.
