SYRACUSE, NY - The Hartwick men's swimming and diving team ended competition at the UNYSCSA/Empire 8 Championship meet on Sunday at Nottingham High School. The Hawks finished 7th out of 16 competing teams in the UNYSCSA. They placed 4th in the Empire 8 Conference.

Sophomore Michael Phillips (Austin, TX) captured UNYSCSA and Empire 8 titles with a blistering swim in the 200 breast finals. In the preliminaries, Phillips set a Hartwick record finishing in 2:07.07. He then cut over two seconds off that time in the finals with a mark of 2:04.60, a full three seconds ahead of the second place finisher from Vassar College. It was also an Empire 8 Championships meet record. Both of Phillips' times in the event were NCAA B-cut times. It marked the third event of the three-day competition, along with the 200 and 400 IM, in which he registered NCAA B-cut times.

Lydon Schultz (Mount Pleasant, SC) placed 5th in the 100 freestyle with a time of 47.29 in the finals. His time is the 6th fastest in Hartwick history. Kaird Durocher (Bethlehem, PA) was 21st (48.70).

Junior Eric Goble (Bellefontaine, OH) and freshman Chris Willcox (Dresher, PA) earned top 10 finishes in the 200 butterfly event. Goble finished in 5th place swimming the finals in 1:57.77. Willcox was less than a second behind in 1:58.45. Freshman Conor Dwyer (Barrington, RI) placed 12th for the Hawks (1:59.79).

Schultz, Durocher, Willcox, and Phillips combined for a 7th place effort in the 400 free relay. The quartet swam the finals race in 3:10.87.

Divers Josh Morey (Gloversville, NY) and Nate Quinn (Fonda, NY) placed 7th and 8th, respectively, in the 3-meter diving event. Morey's final total in the 11-dive competition was 390.35. His score was a personal best and the 3rd highest in the 'Wick record books. Quinn's point total was 381.80, good enough for 4th all-time at HC.

In the 200 backstroke, Tim George (Wiscasset, ME) and Cody Cupit (Nacogdoches, TX) finished in the top 15. George swam the 9th fastest time at Hartwick in the prelims in 1:59.30. He placed 10th in the finals (1:59.31) with Cupit not far behind in 13th (2:01.66).

Travis Bueno (Clifton Park, NY) and Josh McNorton (Sanford, NC) placed 11th and 12th, respectively, in the 1650 free. Bueno closed the race in 17:10.30. McNorton touched the wall in 17:15.47.

At the conclusion of the meet, junior William MacElveen (Poughkeepsie, NY) was named the Hartwick Sportsman of the Year.
