Altman Gains Lone Point in Loss to Franklin

HILTON HEAD, S.C. - Dave Altman (Katonah, N.Y.) posted the lone victory for Hartwick as the Hawks fell to Franklin College (Ind.) 8-1 in men's tennis action, Friday afternoon.

The senior improved to 2-1 in singles competition after rallying from a set down to post a 4-6, 6-1 (10-7) victory over Jordan Moran at number five singles. Two Hawks suffered three-set losses in the setback to the Grizzlies. Nathanael Kelly held off Sean Barr (Scarsdale, N.Y.) 6-1, 3-6 (11-9) at the fourth position, while Ben Ahlbrand rallied to edge Ryan Hughes (Clifton Park, N.Y.) 4-6, 6-3 (12-10). Franklin captured the first three singles matches with straight set victories. Matthew Hamm downed Dan Riviello (Clyde, N.Y.) 6-3, 6-4 at number one; Jace Brewer posted a 6-0, 6-4 decision over Dan Meininger (Cassville, N.Y.) at second singles, while Eric DesRoberts (Biddeford, Maine) fell to Brad Lowe 6-4, 6-3 at third singles.

Franklin won all three doubles matches. Lowe and Kelly defeated the Hartwick tandem of Riviello/Meininger 8-5 at number one; Moran and Hamm downed DesRoberts/Barr 8-5 at second doubles, while Matt Winget and Redman registered a convincing 8-0 win at third doubles over Altman and Hughes.

Hartwick finished its Spring Break trip with a 1-2 record. The Hawks return to action Wednesday afternoon as they travel to face league rival Elmira. The match starts at 4 p.m.
