UNOH Hands 'Wick Men's Tennis First Loss

HILTON HEAD, SC - Hartwick lost its first dual match of the young 2009 season on Tuesday with a 7-2 setback to the University of Northwestern Ohio in Hilton Head, SC. The Racers took two of three doubles matches on the day and five of six singles matches to record the victory. The Hawks, after opening the season with a 5-4 win over Elmhurst on Sunday, now have an overall mark of 1-1.

Hartwick's number three doubles team of sophomore Sean Barr (Scarsdale, NY) and freshman Michael del Rosario (Troy, NY) scored an 8-4 win over UNOH's Logan Wyse and Taylor Frangie to move to 1-1 on the season. Freshmen Jeff Boyd (West Newbury, MA) and Marcelo Navarro (San Juan, Puerto Rico) came close to a win in number one doubles action falling 8-6. Matt Whitty (St. Catherines, ON) and Peter Dumas (Albany, NY) were also narrowly beaten, 8-5, at the number two doubles spot.

The lone individual victory for 'Wick came at second singles as Navarro earned his second win of the season. He had a relatively easy time with Racer number two, Juan Cardenas, 6-1, 6-2.

Hartwick will look for its second team victory on Wednesday. The Blue and White face the University of Sioux Falls (SD) with a start time of 2 p.m.
